Compress a PDF to 200 KB or less

Job portals, scholarship sites and application forms often cap PDF uploads. Drop your PDF here and it is shrunk to fit — in your browser, so your documents stay private.

or click to choose — up to 100 MB and 300 pages. It never leaves your device.

How to shrink

The tool starts gentle and tries stronger settings (down to 56 dpi) only if the file is still too big.

Each page is rebuilt as a compressed picture. That shrinks scans and photo-heavy PDFs a lot, but the text can then no longer be selected or searched. A PDF that is mostly text is usually already small — it may not get smaller.

How to use it

  1. 1Drop your PDF into the box (or click it to choose a file).
  2. 2Check that it says 200 KB. If your site asks for a different limit, change the number or pick 100, 300, 500 KB or 1 MB.
  3. 3Click Compress PDF. The tool starts gently and tries stronger settings only if the file is still too big. Then download it.

Good to know

  • This works best on scans and PDFs full of photos. A PDF that is mostly typed text is usually small already and may not shrink — the tool tells you if that happens.
  • To fit, each page is turned into a compressed picture. The text can no longer be selected or searched, and tiny print gets softer, so look at the result before you send it and keep your original.
  • Many pages with a tight limit is hard: 200 KB across 40 pages leaves very little per page. If the tool can't get there, remove pages you don't need or split the file in two.
  • If you start from photos or scans, shrinking the images first and then turning them into a PDF can give a cleaner result.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a PDF to 200 KB?

Drop the PDF in, keep the target at 200 KB and click Compress PDF. The tool tries a gentle setting first and, if the file is still over the limit, moves to stronger ones until it fits or reaches the smallest it can make.

Why couldn't it get my PDF under 200 KB?

A long PDF, or one with dense full-page pictures, can need more than the smallest setting can give. Remove pages you don't need with the Split tool, send it in two parts, or ask whether the site accepts a larger file.

Will the text still be readable?

At gentle settings, yes. At the strongest settings pages look softer and small print can blur, so check the result before you upload it.

Can I still select and search the text afterwards?

No. Pages are rebuilt as pictures, which is how scans and photo PDFs get so much smaller. Keep your original if you need the text.

What if my PDF is already under 200 KB?

The tool says so and leaves it alone — there is nothing to gain, and you can use the file as it is.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is compressed in your browser and never leaves your device. The limits are 100 MB and 300 pages.
