This is the usual fixed-payment loan, with interest worked out monthly on what is still owed. Your lender's figures can differ a little — fees, insurance, rate changes, or how they count days — so treat this as an estimate.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter the amount you want to borrow, the yearly interest rate and the length of the loan in years or months.
  2. 2Read the monthly payment, the total interest and the total you pay back. Add an extra monthly payment to see the time and interest saved.
  3. 3Look at the schedule year by year or month by month, and download it as a CSV for Excel.

Frequently asked questions

How is the monthly payment (EMI) calculated?

With the standard fixed-payment formula: EMI = P × r × (1 + r)ⁿ ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1), where P is the amount borrowed, r is the monthly rate (the yearly rate ÷ 12) and n is the number of months. Each month's interest is charged on what is still owed.

Does this work for a home loan, car loan or personal loan?

Yes, for any loan with equal monthly payments and a fixed interest rate. It doesn't cover rate changes, balloon payments, or interest-only periods.

How do extra payments help?

Anything you pay on top of the instalment goes straight to the amount owed, so interest is charged on less every month. The tool shows how many months sooner you finish and how much interest you save.

Why does my lender show slightly different numbers?

Lenders can add fees or insurance, count days differently, round at different steps or change the rate over time. Treat this as a reliable estimate, and check the exact figures with your lender.

What if the interest rate is 0%?

Then the monthly payment is simply the amount divided by the number of months, with no interest.

Is my loan information stored?

No. The sums are done in your browser and nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
