Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply by the number. For example 15% of 200 is 15 ÷ 100 × 200 = 30. Choose “X% of Y” and the tool does it and shows the steps.
How do I work out a percentage increase or decrease?
Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. From 80 to 100 that is +25%. From 100 to 75 it is −25%. Choose “% change”.
How do I find the price after a discount?
Use “Discount & tax”: enter the price and the discount, plus an extra discount or tax if there is one. It shows what you pay and how much you save. Two discounts don't simply add up — 20% then another 10% is 28% off in total.
How do I split a bill with a tip?
Choose “Split a bill”, enter the bill, the tip percentage and the number of people. Each person's share is shown, and also what it would be if everyone rounded up to the next whole number.
Does it store what I type?
No. The sums are done in your browser and nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
